Cigna Physical Therapy in Washington DC and Bethesda

District Physical Therapy is out-of-network with Cigna. Many Cigna plans include out-of-network benefits that cover a meaningful portion of PT visits — we verify your specific coverage before your first appointment and file claims directly on your behalf.

Plans we accept

  • Cigna PPO and Open Access plans with out-of-network benefits
  • Cigna HMO plans — typically no out-of-network coverage; self-pay is an option

Why we're not in Cigna's network

We focus on a small set of payers where the reimbursement rates and administrative requirements let us deliver one-on-one, doctorate-level care for a full hour. Cigna's network terms don't currently fit that model — but most Cigna patients can still see us using out-of-network benefits, often with similar out-of-pocket costs to an in-network practice.

How out-of-network coverage typically works

Most Cigna PPO and Open Access plans cover out-of-network PT at 60–80% of an allowed amount, after the out-of-network deductible is met. We verify the specifics for your plan before your first visit and provide a Good Faith Estimate of your expected cost.

We file claims for you

You don't have to deal with paperwork. We submit claims directly to Cigna, track the EOBs, and you pay only your share (typically the deductible amount remaining + coinsurance) at the time of service or once the claim processes.

Self-pay option for HMO plans

Cigna HMO plans usually have no out-of-network coverage. Our self-pay rate is $150 per session with full one-on-one care from a Doctor of Physical Therapy — straightforward and includes all the same care our insurance patients receive. We can provide superbills for HSA / FSA reimbursement.

How to verify your benefits

Frequently asked questions

Can I really see DCPT with Cigna?

Yes, if your plan has out-of-network benefits. Most Cigna PPO and Open Access plans do. We verify before you commit to scheduling.

What will I actually pay?

Varies by plan. Once your out-of-network deductible is met, you typically pay 20–40% of an allowed amount per visit. We provide an estimate up front.

Do I need to submit claims myself?

No — we submit claims to Cigna directly. You pay only your share.

Will Cigna reimburse me for self-pay sessions?

If your plan has out-of-network benefits and you submit a superbill we provide, often yes. We don't guarantee — it depends on plan terms.
