UnitedHealthcare Physical Therapy in Washington DC and Bethesda

District Physical Therapy is contracted with UnitedHealthcare for outpatient physical therapy at our Capitol Hill DC and Bethesda MD locations. Our In-Home program is currently out-of-network for UnitedHealthcare; out-of-network benefits still apply if your plan includes them, and we can help you submit claims.

Plans we accept

  • UnitedHealthcare Choice and Choice Plus
  • UnitedHealthcare Options PPO
  • UnitedHealthcare Navigate (HMO)
  • UnitedHealthcare All Savers
  • Oxford (Northeast plans, where applicable)
  • UMR (UHC's third-party administrator)

What you'll typically pay

UnitedHealthcare plans vary widely. Most patients pay either a per-visit copay ($20–$60 depending on plan) or a percentage coinsurance after meeting the plan deductible. Many UHC plans have a visit limit per calendar year (commonly 20–30 outpatient PT visits) — we track this and let you know if you're approaching it.

Referral and authorization

HMO plans (Navigate, Charter) often require a PCP referral; we can request it on your behalf. PPO plans (Choice Plus, Options) typically don't. Pre-authorization is rarely required for the first 6 visits; some plans require it for continuing care after a threshold, and we handle the submission.

Out-of-network in-home visits

If you'd like in-home visits and your UHC plan includes out-of-network coverage, we're happy to bill out-of-network on your behalf or provide a superbill for self-submission. Most plans cover 50–70% after the OON deductible. We'll explain the cost difference upfront so you can decide what makes sense.

How to get started

Book online or call your nearest location. We verify your UHC plan at intake (usually same day) and let you know your copay, deductible status, and visit-limit position before your first session.

Frequently asked questions

Are you in-network for UnitedHealthcare in-home PT?

No — our In-Home program is out-of-network for UHC. Out-of-network benefits still cover a portion if your plan has them; we'll itemize the cost.

Will I need a referral from my doctor?

HMO plans (Navigate, Charter): usually yes. PPO plans: usually no.

Will pre-authorization slow down my first visit?

No — first visit doesn't require pre-auth on most UHC plans.

Does UMR work the same?

Yes — UMR is UHC's TPA. We accept UMR claims at clinic locations.
