Direct-access law applies — start PT without going through your primary care doctor first. We verify your CareFirst plan benefits at intake.

What you'll typically pay

CareFirst plans vary. Most patients pay a per-visit copay (commonly $20–$50) or a coinsurance percentage after meeting the plan deductible. Some plans have a visit limit (often 30–60 visits per calendar year). We verify all of this in advance — you'll know your expected cost before your first visit.

Authorization

Most CareFirst plans do not require prior authorization for outpatient PT. A handful of newer high-deductible plans require it after a certain number of visits — we handle authorization requests on your behalf.

Federal Employees Program (FEP)

We work with a lot of federal employees. CareFirst FEP plans typically cover 80% after deductible (Standard Option) or a copay per visit (Basic Option). Bring your CareFirst FEP card and we'll verify before your first visit.

How to get started

Book online or call your nearest location. We run a CareFirst benefits check at intake (usually same day) and schedule a same-week evaluation at all three locations.

Frequently asked questions

Is CareFirst BCBS the same as Blue Cross Blue Shield?

CareFirst is the BCBS licensee for DC, Maryland, and parts of Virginia. Your "BCBS" plan from your DC employer is almost certainly a CareFirst plan.

Do CareFirst plans require a referral?

Almost never for PT. Some HMO plans require one; we'll let you know during verification.

Will I need pre-authorization?

Most plans no. Some high-deductible plans require it after a visit threshold — we handle the request.

Can I use my CareFirst FEP for in-home PT?

Yes — same in-network coverage applies to our In-Home program.
